Story

To the Skorupski family, Joe is valued and loved as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin. To his Wyoming community, he is a dedicated friend to all, wrestling coach, and has a successful career as a biologist. He is an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman who has run multiple marathons. We will be forever grateful to the organ donor who saved his life, and now he will be able to continue doing the things he loves with the people who mean the most to him.

Joe’s medical journey in detail:
In August 2024, Joe was hospitalized in Wyoming for severe abdominal pain and diagnosed with blood clots in his liver. He was prescribed blood thinners and consulted multiple specialists in Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado to treat his liver disease and determine the underlying cause of the clots. Following extensive and costly testing, Joe was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera following a bone marrow biopsy in January 2025. Tragically, even a short pause in his blood thinner regimen for the biopsy triggered acute liver failure, and Joe was emergently airlifted to Denver. While fighting for his life and nearly dying, Joe’s liver specialists determined that a transplant was the only option for Joe’s survival. After months of battling to stay alive, unable to work, and multiple costly private flights to Denver for potential donor livers, Joe humbly received the gift of life having a successful liver transplant on May 22, 2025. The road to recovery now requires Joe and his wife to live in Denver for an extended period, far from their two young children and the comforts of home. Beyond the challenges of post-operative healing, Joe faces a lifetime of costly treatment for Polycythemia Vera and ongoing management of his liver function, all of which will create substantial financial burdens.

It is a difficult task to ask for help when there are so many other people and situations in our world that need assistance, but with your generous donation, we hope to raise funds for the following:

– Recovering travel costs during his illness (from Wyoming to Denver)
– Living expenses while in Denver while recovering from surgery
– Medical expenses that were not covered by insurance
-Future costs of travel, medical expenses and lodging

We are beyond grateful for your generous support! Thank you!
